Do you know of anyone who has injected drugs or shared needles with someone else? Drug users are not the only people who might share needles. For example, people with diabetes who inject insulin or draw blood to test glucose levels might share needles. This is a common way in which people contract HIV/AIDS.
HIV/AIDS cares not the color of your skin, your nationality, age, or income. It affects everyone, even those who have not contracted the virus. It stresses personal relationships, and without proper awareness can alienate friends and family. At BASIC of Northwest Florida, we try to provide discrete and compassionate assistance without passing judgment.
- If you have had a blood transfusion or operation in a developing country at any time, you are or were prone to contracting the disease.
- If you had a blood transfusion in the United States between 1978 and 1985, get tested.
- A woman bearing a child, can pass on the infection to their children, while they are in the womb.
- Nursing mothers can pass the disease on through breastfeeding.
BASIC NWFL, Inc. is a volunteer governed, community based organization dedicated to aiding, assisting, and comforting those living with HIV/AIDS, their families and friends, and to providing awareness, education and prevention information to the citizens of Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, and Washington counties.
BASIC NWFL is a United Way Charity with identification numbers of 7075(Bay), 1075(Calhoun), 6075(Gulf), 8075(Holmes), 4075(Jackson) and 5075(Washington). BASIC NWFL is also part of the CFC (Combined Federal Campaign) and the identification number is 58826.
